Why Haiti?

When the devastating earthquake shook Haiti in January of 2010, we already had plans to facilitate a camping experience for Haitian kids at Jacob’s Well Camp near Limbe, Haiti. In July of 2010, a team of 36 fell in love with Jacob’s Well Camp and the community that surrounds it. Our team assisted in providing three days of camp for 200 beautiful children. We also participated in the construction of three cabins while we were there. We remain committed to the vision of Jacob’s Well Camp, to the children and families surrounding the camp, and to the rebuilding of hope for all the people of Haiti.

Our Mission:

To facilitate camp for children and youth including activities, food, sports, drama, cabin times, music, and worship.
In addition, potentially:

  • conduct an evangelism/outreach event for the adults surrounding Jacob’s Well.
  • raise support to build another cabin for the Jacob’s Well master plan.

The Leadership at Jacob’s Well:

The Valcin family in Haiti first sent their children to LLYC in 2007. Pastor Gersan Valcin and his wife Betty had dreamed a vision for Jacob’s Well, purchased 40 acres of land, and are responsible for it becoming the first Christian youth camp in Haiti. Thousands of Haitians have heard the message of Jesus from Pastor Valcin through his many ministries including the 70 churches he planted in Haiti.

Facts about Jacob’s Well:

Jacob’s Well Camp is the only camp in the entire country of Haiti. It is clearly one of the most beautiful, fertile, and ripe areas on the island; not only is it fertile and ripe for vegetation, but also fertile and ripe for the gospel of Jesus Christ. The children surrounding the camp have responded to the love of God, and with our prayers, presence, support, and service, Jacob’s Well will rise up as a place where people are transformed. In 2010, our group supported the drilling of a water well and the planting of thousands of mango, coconut, and lemon trees which will provide a revenue stream for the camp in future years. Perhaps the most significant fact is that Jacob’s Well is a safe place for kids to hear of and experience the love of Jesus.
